How We Review Tea Advent Calendars
How we research calendars, what we compare, how ratings work, and where affiliate links fit in.
The Tea Countdown is an independent buying guide. We do not accept payment for placement, and we have not tasted every tea in every box. What we do is verify the facts, compare calendars fairly, and spell out the trade-offs — so you can choose with confidence.
The process
Five steps behind every listing
Shortlist calendars
We track calendars actually on sale this season — budget, mid-range, and luxury — from retailers we trust.
Verify the facts
Names, day counts, prices, origins, and contents — checked against official brand pages and major retailers.
Compare consistently
Every calendar gets the same treatment: tea variety, quality signals, packaging, and overall value for its price band.
Write clear verdicts
Each review includes pros, cons, a summary, and an editorial rating out of 10 based on how well the calendar fits its price band.
Keep listings current
We revisit prices, availability, and product details throughout the season and update reviews when retailers or brands change their offers.
What we evaluate
Tea variety & style
Black, green, herbal, rooibos, matcha, and specialty blends. We note whether a calendar skews traditional, wellness-focused, or gift-oriented.
Packaging & presentation
Box quality, reusability, and how satisfying the daily unboxing feels, especially important for gift buyers.
Day count & format
Most calendars use 24 days, but some luxury sets use 12. We always show day count prominently so comparisons stay fair.
Value for the price band
A $16 calendar is not scored against a $90 calendar on identical criteria. We ask whether each product delivers what buyers should expect at that level.
Ratings explained
Editorial ratings run from 1 to 10 and reflect how strongly we recommend a calendar within its category and price range.
- 9–10Standout pick: excellent value or exceptional quality for the price band.
- 7–8Solid choice: worthwhile with a few clear trade-offs noted in the review.
- 5–6Acceptable but niche: may suit a specific taste, brand loyalty, or gift scenario.
- Below 5Hard to recommend at current pricing or compared with stronger alternatives on the site.
Independence & affiliate links
Some outbound links are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. That never determines which products we include or how we rank them.
We are not owned by a tea brand or retailer. Product inclusion is based on relevance, availability, and usefulness to readers comparing tea advent calendars for the current season.
