Overview
Vahdam was founded in 2015 by Bala Sarda, then 23, and draws on a family tea business that started in Darjeeling in 1931. The brand ships tea from India to the world, and this calendar is its bagged answer to the loose leaf tin set. The 24 blends are English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Assam Exotic, Darjeeling Summer and Darjeeling Spring; five chais (India's Original, Sweet Cinnamon, Earl Grey Spiced, Vanilla Spiced Masala and Cardamom Masala); six greens (Chamomile Mint Citrus, Mint Melody, Ginger Mint, Himalayan, Lemon Ginger and Earl Grey Green); High Mountain Oolong; Imperial Himalayan White; and six herbals (Turmeric Spiced, Turmeric Ginger, Pumpkin Spiced, Hibiscus Rose, Classic Chamomile and Pure Mint).
Each pyramid bag is plant-based and biodegradable, and Vahdam says the ingredients are handpicked and sourced directly from farms in India. Price is $17.49 against a list of $24.99.
Taste & variety
Count the unflavoured teas and the box tells you what it is. Five blacks (English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Assam Exotic, Darjeeling Summer, Darjeeling Spring), an Imperial Himalayan White and a High Mountain Oolong are the plain ones.
Five chais run from India's Original to Cardamom Masala, Sweet Cinnamon, Vanilla Spiced Masala and an Earl Grey Spiced. The greens lean on flavour: Chamomile Mint Citrus, Mint Melody, Ginger Mint, Lemon Ginger, Earl Grey Green and Himalayan.
Six herbals close the set, from Pumpkin Spiced and Hibiscus Rose to Turmeric Ginger, Classic Chamomile and Pure Mint. Twenty-four different cups, and the unflavoured teas are the minority.
Packaging & gift appeal
Each of the 24 pyramid bags is plant-based and biodegradable, and Vahdam calls them plastic-free, which counts for more than usual in a box that is mostly bags.
At 2g apiece the whole calendar weighs 48g. The calendar itself is foldable. What it does not offer is a keepsake: no tins, no wooden drawers, nothing to refill in January.
That is a fair trade at this price, and the price is partly why a household that already owns three calendars might add a fourth without a pang.
What is in the box
24 plant-based, biodegradable pyramid tea bags (2g each, 48g in total) in a foldable advent calendar: five black teas, five chais, six green teas, six herbal tisanes, one oolong and one white tea. Vahdam says the ingredients come from farms in India.

Our verdict
A cheerful, well-stocked bagged calendar that covers black, chai, green, oolong, white and herbal in 24 separate cups. It will not win over someone who wants a single estate's leaf, but for a desk or a student flat it is the tidy way to meet the brand.
What we like
- 24 different blends, none repeated
- Darjeeling, oolong and white tea sit beside the chais
- Plastic-free pyramid bags that need no strainer
A few things to know
- One bag per door, so no second cup of anything
- Spiced, flavoured and herbal blends outnumber the plain teas
- Six herbals mean six days without real tea
